The former President Donald Trump launched his long-awaited social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday. The app, a Twitter clone, is available for download on the Apple App Store and sits at the top of Apple’s download charts as of publication on Wednesday. You can now download Truth, Donald Trump’s social app from this link.
The process of signing up seemed simple. I downloaded the Truth Social app from the Apple App Store and created an account and password.
The app is Twitter-like in its features and design, allowing users to build custom profiles, follow others and create posts, which the app calls “Truths” and “Re-Truths” instead of tweets and retweets. It will differ from mainstream social media, however, in its plans for content moderation.
The launch would restore Trump’s presence on social media more than a year after he was banned from Twitter Inc (TWTR.N), Facebook (FB.O), and Alphabet Inc’s (GOOGL.O) YouTube following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, after he was accused of posting messages inciting violence.
Five people died during or shortly after Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol in the weeks before President Biden’s inauguration ceremony. Twitter then banned Trump indefinitely because of the “risk of further incitement to violence,” cutting him off from his nearly 89 million followers.
The Trump Media and Technology Group first announced it was launching Truth Social in October as part of an effort “to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.”
The platform is owned by the newly-formed Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), a structure that envisaged also providing a video-on-demand (VOD) service and ‘non-woke’ podcasts, the statement said.
While Truth Social has Trump’s active involvement on its side, there are real questions as to whether there are enough people who are willing to keep all three of these services alive. You can download Truth, Donald Trump’s social app now and join this community.
