What is DNS?

What is DNS? DNS or Domain Name System is used to resolve human readable host names.

Short for Domain Name System an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. When you enter a URL into your Web browser, your DNS server uses its resources to resolve the name into the IP address for the appropriate Web server. Your Internet Service Provider will use a primary DNS server and a secondary DNS server as backup. Each web server has a unique IP address in textual form The easiest way to find out your DNS server IP address is to go through the router’s admin interface status page.Also Organizations can create private networks that are not visible on the Internet, using their own domain name spaces.  A local DNS server  performs domain name lookup is normally located on the network.
